Clover sells well into retail because the Station Duo looks like a register and the Retail Growth plan covers what a typical shop needs. It also gets oversold into stores it cannot handle. This page covers the setup, what the plan does, where the inventory tools stop, and the store types that should use something else.
The setup
| Store | Hardware | Software |
|---|---|---|
| Boutique, gift, small specialty | Mini with cash drawer and handheld scanner via hub | Retail Growth $84.95, or Essentials $14.95 if you do not track inventory |
| General retail with barcodes, one lane | Station Duo (built-in scanner, cash drawer, customer screen) | Retail Growth |
| Two lanes | Duo plus Mini | Retail Growth |
| Curbside or sidewalk sales | Add a Flex | Same plan |
| Pop-ups and markets | Flex or Go | Same plan |
Hardware is placed at no charge for qualifying stores through us; list prices are on the Clover pricing page.
What the Retail Growth plan does
- Item catalog with categories, variants (size, color), modifiers and item-level cost and price.
- Barcode scanning at checkout and label printing through apps.
- Stock counts, low-stock alerts, and item-level sales reporting.
- Customer profiles and purchase history; loyalty and gift cards through Clover programs.
- Employees with permissions, time clock, per-employee sales.
- Returns, exchanges, discounts, and tax rules by item.
- Online store through Clover’s ecommerce tools or integrations with WooCommerce, Shopify and others through the App Market.
Where Clover’s inventory stops
- Purchase orders and receiving. Basic. Stores that reorder from many vendors weekly want a real PO system, available through App Market apps at added cost or through a dedicated retail system.
- Vendor management and cost tracking. Limited.
- Case-to-unit breakdown (buy a case, sell a can). Not native.
- Age verification with ID scanning. Not native.
- Scan data rebates for tobacco. Not supported.
- Multi-location inventory transfers. Requires apps or an external system.
Liquor stores, smoke and vape shops, convenience stores and small grocers hit every one of those. We install Exatouch for them, with Clover or Dejavoo as the payment device where it makes sense. That setup is on the retail and convenience page.
Dual pricing on the sales floor
Two prices on the shelf label, or one shelf price marked as the cash price with a register sign stating the card price percentage. The customer screen on the Duo or Mini shows both totals before the card is tapped. The receipt shows the price paid and the tender. Debit and credit are treated the same. On $30,000 a month in cards the store keeps roughly $750 a month that would otherwise be processing. The rules and the difference from a surcharge are on dual pricing on Clover.
Before install day
We import your item list with UPCs, costs, prices and categories from your old system or a spreadsheet, set tax rules, build employee roles, print shelf signage for dual pricing, and configure the scanner and drawer. Install is before opening; we stay through the first hours of trade.
Cost
Hardware placed. Retail Growth at $84.95 a month. Processing at $0 under dual pricing, or interchange-plus (about 1.8% to 2.0% all-in for a typical retail mix) if you prefer one posted price. Month to month, fee schedule on one page. Compare it to a Square Register setup on Clover vs Square.
