Station Duo is the Clover most restaurants and busy retail counters end up with, and the one most often photographed in Clover’s marketing. This page covers what is in the box, what it costs direct versus through a dealer, and the one feature that makes it the right pick over the cheaper Solo for most counters.

Specs from Clover’s developer documentation and 2026 dealer spec sheets. Clover revises hardware generations without fanfare; the current unit is commonly called Duo 2.
What the customer screen does
The second screen is not a luxury. It moves four things off your staff and onto the customer:
- Tap to pay. The customer taps their own card or phone. Staff never handle it.
- Tips. Preset percentages or amounts, chosen by the customer. Tip rates go up when the customer picks on their own screen.
- Signature and receipt choice. Print, email, text, or none.
- Dual pricing display. Both the cash total and the card total appear before the customer chooses how to pay. That is the disclosure that keeps a dual pricing program compliant, and it is why we do not recommend Solo for merchants running dual pricing at the counter. The mechanics are on the dual pricing on Clover page.
Cost: direct vs dealer
| clover.com | Through us | |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware | $1,899 outright, or 36-month bundle with early termination fee | Placed at no charge for qualifying merchants, or purchased outright; never leased |
| Software | Counter Service $59.95, Table Service $89.95, Retail Growth $84.95 a month | Same plans |
| Processing | 2.3% + 10¢ in person; 3.5% + 10¢ keyed or online | Dual pricing: $0 to the merchant. Or interchange-plus. |
| Setup | Self-serve | Menu or inventory built, printers routed, staff trained, on site in San Diego and LA |
| Contract | No long-term processing contract | Month to month, in writing |
On $40,000 a month in cards the processing difference is about $1,000 a month. The hardware price is a footnote. The full comparison with worked examples is on the Clover pricing page.
Who should buy it
- Full-service restaurants: Duo at the server station or host stand, Flex handhelds for the floor.
- Bars: tabs, split checks and tips on the customer screen.
- Quick service with lines: Duo at the counter, a Kiosk beside it once the line is a problem.
- Retail with barcodes: the built-in scanner and the customer display for two prices.
Who should not
A coffee bar or small counter with one register is well served by a Mini at less than half the price. A staff-only station behind a bar where customers never face the screen can use a Solo plus a Flex. A business that needs to keep taking cards during internet outages should add a Flex on LTE, because the Station line is built for a continuous connection.
Accessories worth having
A second cash drawer for a two-lane counter, a kitchen printer or Clover Kitchen Display for restaurants, a handheld barcode scanner for high-volume retail, and a Flex for pay at table or line busting. All placed or purchased with the Duo on one quote.
