Clover Station Duo vs Solo vs Mini: Picking the Counter Device Without Overbuying

Clover Station Duo vs Solo vs Mini on customer screen, tap, tips, dual pricing display, cash drawer, scanning, app support and price, with the counter types where.

Short answer

Station Duo ($1,899): two screens, the customer's own tap, tip and dual pricing display, printer, cash drawer, barcode scanner. Station Solo ($1,799): the same station with one screen and no customer tap. Mini ($849): an 8-inch single-screen POS with printer and a hub for a drawer and scanner.

For any counter where the customer faces the register, tips, or sees two prices: Duo. For a small single register: Mini, at less than half the Duo's price. Solo only for staff-controlled stations behind a bar or at a host stand, usually paired with a Flex.

Through a dealer all three are placed at no charge for qualifying merchants, so choose by how the counter works, then let the processing terms decide the total.

Clover’s three counter devices overlap enough that people buy the wrong one in both directions: a Duo for a coffee bar, or a Solo for a tip-heavy counter that then needs a second device anyway. This page puts them side by side and matches each to the counters it belongs on.

The Solo trap

The Solo is $100 cheaper than the Duo and lacks the customer tap. Almost every Solo installation then adds a Flex or Mini so customers can tap, which costs more than the $100 saved and puts two devices on the counter. The Solo is right only where the counter is genuinely staff-only. If you are not sure, it is the Duo.

The Duo overbuy

A single-register cafe on a Duo is paying $1,050 more than the Mini for a second screen it uses and a scanner it does not. Under a placement program the hardware cost is the dealer’s, not yours, but placement terms scale with equipment value. The Mini does the job.

Dual pricing on each

Duo shows both totals on the customer screen. Mini shows them on its screen turned toward the customer. Solo shows them on the paired Flex or Mini. In every case the customer sees both prices before choosing tender, the receipt shows the price paid, and the merchant’s processing cost is zero. Details on dual pricing on Clover.

Pricing

All three placed at no charge for qualifying merchants through us, or purchased outright; never leased. Same software plans on each. Processing at $0 under dual pricing or on interchange-plus. Worked examples on the Clover pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Should I get the Clover Station Duo or Solo?
Duo for any counter where the customer faces the register, tips, or needs to see two prices; the customer screen handles tap, tip, signature and the dual pricing display. Solo for staff-controlled stations where customers do not face the screen, paired with a Flex or Mini for customer tap. The $100 difference is small next to what the customer screen does.
Should I get a Clover Station or a Clover Mini?
Mini for a single register with a small counter: cafes, salons, small retail, service desks. Station Duo when you need a cash drawer included, the built-in barcode scanner, two screens, and the larger merchant display for busy restaurants and retail. The Mini runs the same software at $849 versus $1,899.
Can a Mini be a customer display for a Station Solo?
Yes. A Mini paired with a Solo gives the customer a screen for tap, tip and dual pricing display. That combination costs more than a Duo, so it only makes sense when a Solo is already in place.
Which Clover devices support offline payments?
Flex and Mini support Clover's offline payment queue when enabled in the dashboard. The Station line is designed for a continuous connection with Ethernet, Wi-Fi and LTE options. Counters that must keep taking cards during an outage pair a Station with a Flex or Mini.
Which Clover works with third-party POS software?
Station Duo, Mini and Flex support semi-integrated mode, where third-party software drives the Clover device for payment. Station Solo does not. Ask your software vendor which device they certify before buying.
