Station Solo is the same powerful station as the Duo with one screen instead of two. That saves $100 and a few inches of counter, and it costs two capabilities that matter more than the price. This page is about knowing which side of that trade you are on.

The two things it cannot do
Customer tap. Contactless payment on Clover happens on a customer-facing surface: the Duo’s second screen, a Mini, or a Flex. The Solo’s reader faces staff. A customer who wants to tap their phone at a Solo cannot, so nearly every Solo installation adds a Flex or Mini as the payment device. At that point the price gap to a Duo has closed.
Semi-integrated apps. Some third-party POS and vertical software connects to Clover in “semi-integrated” mode, using the Clover device as the payment terminal for their own software. The Duo supports that; the Solo does not. If your software vendor told you to get a Clover, ask which mode they use before choosing Solo.
Where the Solo is right
- Behind a bar. The bartender rings, keeps tabs and closes out; guests tap on a Flex at the rail or sign a printed slip.
- Host stand or server station. Orders in, payments at the table on a Flex.
- Back-office or admin station. Reporting, inventory receiving, employee management, with payments elsewhere.
- A second station in a restaurant that already has a Duo at the counter.
Where the Duo is right
Any counter where the customer faces the register: quick service, cafes, retail, any place with a tip prompt, and every counter running dual pricing, because the customer has to see both prices before choosing tender. The dual pricing on Clover page explains why the customer-facing display matters for compliance. The full side-by-side is on Station Duo vs Station Solo.
Cost through a dealer
Same as the Duo: placed at no charge for qualifying merchants or purchased outright, never leased; software at Clover’s published plan prices; processing at $0 under dual pricing or on interchange-plus. Because the Solo usually needs a Flex or Mini beside it, quote the pair, not the station alone. Details on the Clover pricing page.
