Salons and barbershops are service businesses with a retail shelf and a tip on every ticket. The POS has to get the money to the right stylist, sell the shampoo on the same receipt, and talk to the appointment book. Here is the Clover setup and what it costs.
The setup
| Position | Device | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Front desk | Clover Mini with cash drawer via hub | Checkout, client taps and tips on the screen, retail scanning |
| Independent chairs or booth renters | Flex per chair, on the same account or their own | Checkout at the chair |
| Booking | App Market scheduling app, or an external scheduler connected to Clover | Appointments, reminders, client history |
The Mini’s specs are on the Clover Mini page. Hardware placed at no charge for qualifying salons.
Checkout that pays the right person
Every service on the ticket is assigned to a stylist. The client sees the tip prompt on the Mini’s screen with preset percentages. Tips and service sales record per employee. Reports show service revenue, retail revenue, tips and commission basis by stylist and by period, which is what payroll needs. Booth renters can run their own Clover account on a Flex if they process separately.
Retail on the same ticket
Products with barcodes, cost and price, tracked in inventory with low-stock alerts, sold on the same ticket as the service and reported separately. Retail commissions computed from the same reports.
Booking
Clover is the register; booking lives in an app. Options: App Market scheduling apps that run on the Clover screen, or the salon’s existing scheduler connected for checkout so the appointment becomes the ticket. We set up whichever matches how the front desk already works, rather than moving a salon off a scheduler it likes.
Gift cards, memberships, loyalty
Clover gift cards (physical at about $1 to $1.25 each, digital through the dashboard) sell at the desk and online. Memberships and packages run through App Market apps or the scheduler. Loyalty through Clover rewards or an app. Details on Clover gift cards and loyalty.
Dual pricing on services
The price list shows cash prices with a line stating card prices are a set percentage higher, and the Mini shows both totals before the client taps. On a $90 color service at 3.99% the difference is $3.59. The salon keeps the 2.6% to 3.5% it was paying on every appointment; at $35,000 a month that is roughly $1,000 a month. Tips are prompted on the card total and paid in full. The rules are on dual pricing on Clover.
Cost
Mini placed. Essentials plan at $14.95 a month for a simple checkout, or Counter Service at $59.95 if you want the fuller feature set; booking app fees separate. Processing $0 under dual pricing or interchange-plus. Month to month, fee schedule on one page.
